Ok, so lately I've been playing quite a bit of Final Fantasy 13 so I thought It'd be a nice thing to blog about.
Anyways, the game has gotten a lot of bad rep lately for being too "linear" and not having many elements of RPG ie. towns/buying/selling etc. so here's what I think about XIII
Graphics - drop dead gorgeous!
Music - who's Uematsu? The new guy is master class
Battle - The best battle system in any RPG
Story - I can't understand most of it but from what I can, it's good
Characters - LIGHTNING!! Loving the pink hair! At least they all here a reason to be there unlike half of XII
Ok, so the first 20 hours or so is moving from point A to B...but that's a small price to pay to follow the story, learn of character backgrounds and motivations as well as the complicated (but super fun) battle system. Once the game opens up though, it's quite massive. Oh and there is no towns - you do your shopping at save points but to be honest, unless I really wanted to hardcore role play, there is not much loss. It just means that there is less time spent worrying about going back to town so you can get back to killing things.
And believe me, the things are quite hard to kill. I heard that the battle director wanted every fight to be treated like a boss fight so he made things hard. It's not super hard if you over-train, which most do, but it's still better than XII where you can just put your controller down and still beat the final boss.
The music is wonderful and melodic, unlike the random new-age crap that was XII and the story, from what I can understand, is actually fantasy. Again, unlike the political crap of XII. Ugh I fricking hated XII so perhaps this blog should be renamed for why I hate XII...but that's for another time.
XIII is fun if you're not one of those hardcore gamer types that has to have EVERYTHING. It's maps might be linear and it's not the most traditional of RPGs but it's presentation is top class. Anyways, if you haven't played Final Fantasy XIII yet, look forward to it!
Oh! and I finally figured out how to insert pics~
Thanks for reading
