Is whale meat worth international scrutiny and humiliation?

So I've been asked what whale meat tastes like...and let me tell you, it's not bad. Although whale does not have a distinctive taste as say salmon, tuna, or sea urchin etc. it does have some flavor to it. The closest flavor I've had to whale sushi I think is horse sushi. Both meats have a quite  subtle and light flavor that is best enjoyed with some garnishes of onions and garlic. Overall, whale has  a nice dark red color like meat yet has the smooth texture like fish - nice!

Eating the whale meat is easy, it's finding the restaurant that is the real trick. According to my sushi chef host brother, most sushi restaurants serve whale but only when there is demand. Therefore you have to reserve in advance and pay quite a bit. Me and my friend however were able to find a sushi restaurant in Tsu                         kiji, the famous Japanese fish market, that was serving whale on that day - and it wasn't that expensive to boot!

Anyways, after writing papers on the illegality of the Japanese whaling program as well as citizen reactions against the program, the irony of my situation was not lost upon me but, I suppose you only live once and all that eh? .....er....yeah.

Anyways, according to my dad whale was the poor people's beef back after the war. He hates it. I suppose that just means whale is not for everyone.

Enjoy,

TQT
